What wellbeing means to me

It pretty much speaks for itself. Wellbeing to me means being well in a nutshell but I will explain later in this blog what choices I make to BE well.

A wise person once said "you can't control what others do" but what you can control are the choices you make that are going to make a difference in your life. Another thing that always stuck with me that an old friend said was "we should just let bygones be bygones" which he was trying to tell me to just be present and let go of any grudges over things that happened in the past and to not look back. The two quotes work together really well because when I started to take care of myself and align with making self-loving choices things started happening for me and choosing to have a purpose helped make the negative stuff melt away from my mind. I can hear myself think now, I may have started off feeling exhausted but that was my body just showing me how tired it was from the past unloving choices I had made and me getting honest about where my health was really at.

Avoiding things like gluten, dairy, sugar, salt, staying up after 10pm, hanging out with negative people (which I always felt exhausted like I was in a sleep coma after my encounters), alcohol, drugs, smoking, junk food, excessive exercise and pushing too hard, exercising when I am due on my period or having a rest day, partying, binge watching TV and being glued to the screen by going on social media.

What I now do instead is follow some really amazing recipes that are catered to a gluten, dairy, yeast and salt free, also low in sugar journey with food. Not a diet or a way of life but following recipes that are of an enormous value to me as they have helped me connect to my body in a way that supports me tremendously.

Winding down from 5pm has been a massive support for me with no social media, only replying to emails on my phone and doing any last minute research but getting little to no stimulation until bedtime which is 10 pm. I am not perfect and I don't always do this without the odd slip here and there with social media but it has made a huge difference where I can now actually tell if I am sleepy because I don't have the distraction of a phone, computer or TV screen and I just go to bed naturally.

I have found that exercising gently can be very supportive in line with eating healthily as it is about getting fit but not pushing yourself to the point where you may get acid reflux or even ill with diseases in the long term. On top of this I am working on not exercising during certain times of the month in my menstrual cycle because to me that means honouring the rest that my body needs at particular phases of my cycle. Also taking time out to have rest days where I only include walking as a form of exercise is vital especially with how much I feel to recover from my exhaustion.

I now only watch 1 or two episodes of a TV show a day if I do watch TV as I have found that I don't feel great after watching more than 2 hours. I try to spend 2 hours max on social media a day as well to stay in touch with life offline.

Alcohol and smoking are not something I was really into that much but when I did consume these things I would put myself in situations that I got taken advantage of and was not happy with how I felt afterwards. I don't consume these things now and I feel much healthier and safer for it.

I know with each of these steps I am taking my health will skyrocket and it is a way to prevent diseases in the future but also to be more of myself around others. I now feel a sense of self-worth where I can express things like the fact that I will not accept going out with a friend late at night after 10pm or I will not accept alcohol as a request to drink with them. I choose not to have relationships with abusive people and I can concentrate way more in my work now and work harder than ever before.
